OTJIWARONGO, 26 DEC (NAMPA) - Two people died instantly after the sedan they were travelling in collided head-on with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at about 23h38 on Saturday some seven kilometres south of Otavi.
It is alleged the sedan was overtaking a truck on a blind spot when it hit the SUV.
The deceased persons have been identified as Henry Denver Barker, 31, and Helena Awases, 26.
“Their close family members have already been informed,” said Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa acting regional police commander, Deputy Commissioner Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono.
He told Nampa on enquiry Monday the accident occurred at a spot clearly marked with a solid white line.
Mavenjono said the sedan was coming from the direction of Otavi to Otjiwarongo, while the SUV headed the opposite direction.
The sedan’s 26-year-old driver survived the accident with injuries. He was taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.
The SUV’s two occupants, including the 25-year-old driver, also survived the accident with injuries.
Police investigations continue.
