OTJIWARONGO, 26 DEC (NAMPA) – A 37-year-old female security guard at Grootfontein was murdered by an unknown person in the bushes near the Oshivanda Combined School.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Acting Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono on Monday told Nampa in an interview that the murder and suspected rape incident might have occurred the night between Thursday and Friday.
Mavenjono said the woman has been identified as Lucia Nghifinwa, who worked as a security guard for a local company at Grootfontein.
Her family members have been informed of her death.
Mavenjono said Nghifinwa’s body was found Friday morning at approximately 07h30 by a passerby, who spotted blood stains in a footpath as well as dragging marks on the ground.
This person then found the victim’s half-naked body in the bushes.
Police preliminary investigations indicate Nghifinwa was first stabbed with an unknown object in the back and neck to weaken her, and later pulled into the bushes where she was allegedly raped by the suspect.
Her blue jeans and underwear (panty) were also found on the scene torn in half.
“We still don't know where she was coming from or where she was going and/or whether she was on duty or off duty,” said Mavenjono.
No arrest has yet been made.
Mavenjono called on members of the public to assist the police with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Investigations into the matter continue.
