Lightning kills three in Kavango and Zambezi

WINDHOEK, 19 DEC (NAMPA) – A 35-year-old man died in an accident between a minibus and a pickup vehicle on the Tsumeb-Oshivelo road on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Tuyeni Tulongeni.
Namibian Police Head of Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said during a media briefing on Sunday the accident occurred when two vehicles traveling from Windhoek to Oshakati trailed each other in the process of overtaking another vehicle.
In a separate incident, 29-year-old Merven Goraseb was stabbed to death at about 04h30 on Sunday morning in Okahandja. A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the murder and is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In a similar incident, a 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her older sister during an argument over a man in Rehoboth’s Block E residential area at about 02h32 on Sunday.
Sara Skywer died on the spot. The 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old Rudolph Kozongonda allegedly hanged himself on Thursday at an unknown time at his house in Rietfontein Block, Otjombinde Constituency.
Kanguatjivi said no suicide note was left behind and no foul play is suspected. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
In the Kavango West Region, a woman died when the hut she was sleeping in caught fire after being struck by lightning on Thursday at about 17h00 at the Kamupapu Matate village.
The deceased is Iyanga Veronica Kayando. Her age could not be determined as all her documents were destroyed in the fire.
In a similar incident, two unidentified men were fatally struck by lightning and burned to death on Saturday in the Zambezi Region.
