LUANDA, 16 DEC (NAMPA) – The national Under-20 (U20) netball team missed out on a bronze medal on Friday at the 2016 African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five U20 Youth Games.
The Namibians lost their match 24-64 against Zimbabwe and finished fourth in the group.
On Friday morning the Namibian team brought their A-game, but missed a lot of scoring opportunities which the strong Zimbabwe squad capitalised on.
South Africa, the netball competition defending champions, will play Botswana in the final that also takes place on Friday.
Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa competed in the netball category.
Speaking to Nampa after the game, Namibia’s Chef de Mission Victoria Katukula said the team gave it their all, but Zimbabwe was the better team.
“Our girls missed a lot of scoring chances today. I think they were tired from all the games they have played thus far in the competition, but I am happy that we competed well and had a well-behaved team throughout the competition.”
The Namibian netball team returned to Namibia on Friday after their game against Zimbabwe.
