OPUWO, 14 DEC (NAMPA) – A three-year-old boy who went missing near Opuwo on Friday was found Sunday morning – some 25 kilometres from where he was last seen.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Crime Investigation Coordinator in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu told Nampa on Tuesday that the boy from Okovingava village on the outskirts of Opuwo spent the day playing at a neighbouring homestead.
He started walking home late but got lost and was found in the area of Otjerunda Sunday morning.
Otjerunda is situated some 25 kilometres away from Okovingava, where the boy lives.
“He was very weak when he was found. The police were alerted and went to collect him,” Kanyetu said.
The boy was admitted to the Opuwo District Hospital and was said to be doing well.
Kanyetu said he was concerned that people let children this young walk alone at night.
“They could at least have escorted the boy or let him sleep over as it was too late for a three-year-old to be walking alone at that time,” he said.
The police and hospital asked that the boy’s name be withheld.
