VERDA, 11 DEC (NAMPA) – Police at Verda Gate in the Kunene Region are investigating a case of rhino poaching, after a wounded rhino was found in the vicinity of the Etosha National Park.
This was confirmed the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s crime investigations coordinator for the Kunene Region, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu on Saturday.
The rhino was found last Tuesday.
Kanyetu could however not say how many people were rounded up for interrogation.
No further details were available on the matter as police investigations continue.
Just last month, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism said the carcasses of seven rhinos were found in the Etosha National Park, all of which had fallen victim to poachers.
This brought the number of rhinos killed by poachers in Namibia this year to 47.
