Elderly man shoots himself in Omusati Region

OSHAKATI, 10 DEC (NAMPA) - An 84-year-old man shot himself at Onaizimba village in the Omusati Region on Friday.
The region’s Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Liinekela Shikongo on Saturday said in a statement the man shot himself in the head with a shotgun and died on the spot.
The incident occurred at the deceased’s homestead at around 18h00.
He has been identified as Mweuta Lukas Ishongwa. No suicide note was left behind and Ishongwa’s next of kin have been informed.
In an unrelated case, a case of murder was reported at the Onesi Police Station on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 20h30 at Eendjokwe village.
According to Shikongo, a man allegedly used a knife to stab and kill his mother's partner.
The incident occurred at the suspect's mother's homestead (where they both live) when the deceased went to see his girlfriend.
The victim has been identified as the 65-year-old Imongwa Nivelao Itembu.
It is further reported that the suspect was also admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital as the deceased attacked him with a panga.
He is said to be in critical condition.
