OTJIWARONGO, 08 DEC (NAMPA) More than 60 patients benefited from a one-day free medical outreach programme in Grootfontein by four Chinese state doctors.
The team was headed by Doctor Zhang Shuiying from China.
Chinese construction company, China Henan International Cooperation (Chico), sponsored the exercise.
Chico Managing Director, Sun Yanlei confirmed the event to Nampa on Wednesday, saying the doctors are also specialists in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and electrocardiography.
The doctors attended to patients with chronic blood pressure complications and conducted general medical tests on blood glucose.
They also distributed free medicine to patients, as well as offered them prescriptions and referrals.
Doctor Zhang and other Chinese medical experts are now working at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in the capital on a two-year contractual agreement between the Namibian and Chinese governments, said Sun.
Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Julius Neumbo thanked the Chinese on behalf of the patients and region.
We thank you for hosting this free medical consultation and other health services to our people here as part of your social responsibility during your stay in Namibia, said Neumbo.
He then urged other foreign companies operating in the country to emulate the example of Chico and its Chinese doctors.
Chico has been in Namibia since 2007. It won the tender to upgrade the gravel road between Otjinene and Grootfontein to bitumen standard under supervision of the Roads Authority.
The company completed the construction of the Rundu-Elundu road in the Kavango East Region and the reconstruction of the Okandjengedi Bridge in the Oshana Region.
