GOBABIS, 07 DEC (NAMPA) – The Police have called for cooperation from the Gobabis community to help curb crime during the festive season.
Speaking to Nampa on Friday, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Regional Commander, Josephat Abel said they have prepared for the festive season and will amongst others set up extra road blocks and have volunteers from the women and men community policing network assist the police for the holidays.
He also asked that people be more vigilant and exercise extra caution over this period, when there tends to be an increase in criminal activities such as theft.
“Yesterday we arrested someone who was trying to steal money from the governor’s vehicle and he is in custody now,” said Abel.
He urged residents to lock their vehicles when in public places and to ask their neighbours to watch their houses.
Abel said a big concern is the method whereby criminals use remote controls to block the signal of vehicle owners’ remote controls.
“Make sure that your vehicle is locked when you get out of it,” he said.
Shebeen owners have also been asked to see to it that laws are obeyed at their businesses.
Abel said there will be a “special cell” at the police station who those found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
