SWAKOPMUND, 06 DEC (NAMPA) - Volleyball lovers can expect loads of fun at the coast this December as two volleyball championships are planned for Swakopmund.
Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) President, Gunter Rust told Nampa on Monday everything is in place for the events.
The first event to take place is the 2016 Zone Six Club Championship from 12 to 16 December at the new Dome Beach Volleyball courts.
On 18 and 19 December, the Zone Six Beach Volleyball Club Championship will take place at the same courts.
The championships were made possible by Bank Windhoek with a sponsorship of N.dollars 40 000.
These are events not to be missed, Rust said before inviting everyone who plans to be at the coast in December to attend and show their support for the teams.
The 10 countries expected to participate are South Africa, Zambia, Angola, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
There are no cash prizes, but there will be medals for the winners who will automatically qualify for the African Club Championship, said the NVF president.
Each country enters 16 teams per gender in each competition.
Host Namibia will enter four teams per gender for the Zone Six Club Championship and three teams per gender for the Zone Six Beach Volleyball Club Championship.
The Zone Six Club Championship will be played in different stages, starting with the group stages followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
The finals will take place on 16 and 19 December, respectively.
The championships will coincide with the official launch of the beach volleyball courts.
The NVF last week entered into a partnership with Refuse Solutions to construct a beach volleyball facility at The Dome complex in Swakopmund.
It will be able to house two international-size beach volleyball courts.
