RUNDU, 06 DEC (NAMPA) – A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped at the Kehemu settlement on Saturday.
Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Kavango East Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday the suspect has not yet been arrested.
Bampton said the incident is alleged to have taken place at about 24h00 after the suspect met the woman at Paulus Bar. He grabbed her hand and threatened to stab her with a knife if she screamed.
He then allegedly pulled her into a room close to the community hall, forced her onto the floor beside a bed and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old man was arrested last Thursday for hitting a pedestrian and for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
Bampton said the driver was traveling north to south down Dr Romanus Street in the Safari residential area when he failed to stop at a pedestrian crossing and hit a 13-year-old girl.
She was admitted in the Rundu State Hospital, where her condition has been described as serious but stable.
The driver was arrested and is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
