WINDHOEK, 05 DEC (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry (MAWF) has appointed Percy Misika as Permanent Secretary (PS).
Misika previously worked as country representative for the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). He still had four and half years remaining of his term at the UN.
“The call came when I was already in transit (to South Africa) but I regarded it as an honour and accepted to serve the Namibian nation,” Misika said at a media briefing here on Monday.
Prior to his position at the UN, he served as under-secretary in the Department of Agriculture in the then Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development.
Minister John Mutorwa, who also made a statement at Misika's appointment ceremony, said he is happy and excited to welcome the new PS back at the ministry.
“Our new PS is a man from, of and for agriculture, water and forestry,” Mutorwa noted.
Misika started his new job on 01 December 2016.
The minister also read a policy statement to his staff members, pointing out it is the duty of the minister, deputy minister, permanent secretary, deputy secretary and directors to “unblock” channels of communication within the ministry's directorate.
“We have got many problems here where people in the same division or directorate don’t talk to each other; they hate one another so to say,” he said.
Mutorwa stated that it cannot be allowed because it is unhealthy in any organisation.
