Cattle herder shoots son, commits suicide

WINDHOEK, 05 DEC (NAMPA) - A Zambian national shot himself in the head shortly after he shot and killed his 11-year-old son at Kanda village in the Zambezi Region.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told a media conference here Sunday that Kuituta Masekela (age not mentioned) allegedly killed his son, Kuituta Kwibisa, by shooting him in the stomach with a shotgun.
The boy died instantly.
Masekela then ran into the near bushes and committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with the same rifle.
The victims' next of kin have been informed about the incident.
The firearm belongs to a Namibian man who employed Masekela as a cattle herder at his farm in the area.
It is now in the possession of the police.
Police investigations are underway.
