RUACANA, 04 DEC (NAMPA) – Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Jerry Ekandjo on Saturday appealed to the youth and particularly those in the Omusati Region, to assist Government in fighting poverty.
Officially opening the first Ruacana Youth Exposition (expo), Ekandjo noted the importance of such events for the youth to empower themselves.
“I would like to appeal to the youth in Omusati Region to join hands together and assist the government to collectively fight poverty, youth unemployment and lack of economic empowerment by participating in activities such as youth expos.”
He said such an event is a platform organised for the youth to showcase, market and demonstrate their latest products and services to the community, while using the provided platform for networking with other businesses and entrepreneurs.
Like other exhibitions, the Ruacana Youth Expo is an opportunity organised for the youth to meet with industry partners and customers to study the activities of rivals, and examine recent market trends and opportunities.
He commended members of the Ruacana Youth Forum, namely Bertha Shagandjwa, Isai Amukwa and Martha Kamati, as well as the constituency councillor Andreas Shintama, for committing their time and energy towards making the expo possible.
Ekandjo also mentioned Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Youth Forum, Immanuel Shikongo and Chairperson of the Ruacana Youth Forum, Wilka Isaacks as other significant contributors to the expo.
The minister further urged Government and private institutions to assist the youth when they approach them for assistance for such initiatives.
Speaking to Nampa on the sidelines of the expo’s official opening, Shagandjwa said 13 upcoming entrepreneurs are participating.
“Seventeen entrepreneurs have registered to be exhibitors but four of them withdrew due to the shifting of the venue from the sport ground to the community hall here.”
The expo took place from Friday to Sunday.
