HELAO NAFIDI, 02 DEC (NAMPA) – Helao Nafidi Town Council members re-elected Eliaser Nghipangelwa on Thursday to continue serving as the town’s mayor for the next 12 months.
“I have been re-elected and I have nothing much to say,” Nghipangelwa said in his acceptance speech, adding that service delivery to the community of Helao Nafidi is what his council is expected to execute.
He was nominated by former mayor Paulus Haikali and seconded by Ester Nghidimbwa.
Nghidimbwa, who earlier this year took the Swapo party to court for planning to remove her from the council, was elected as additional member of the management committee (MC).
All councillors of Helao Nafidi retained their portfolios.
Nghipangelwa is to be deputised by Panduleni Hainghumbi, and Lilia Hashoongo remains the chairperson of the MC.
Other members of the three-member MC are Haikali and Tomas Kandjebo.
Vilho Shimwooshili of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) is an ordinary member of the council.
Shimwooshili is the only member of the council from the opposition, while all other members are serving on the ticket of the ruling Swapo party.
Magistrate of the Ohangwena Magistrate's Court, August Simon presided over the re-election and swearing-in of the Helao Nafidi councillors.
