Mariental rape suspect denied bail

15 Nov 2016 18:30pm
MARIENTAL, 15 NOV (NAMPA) – Twenty three year Johannes Byl appeared before Mariental Magistrate’s court on Monday to face three charges of rape against three minor boys.
Byl made his first appearance before magistrate Lizazi Liveve.
The accused was denied bail on grounds that police investigations are at an early stage and he might interfere with them if released on bail.
The suspect was arrested on Friday last week, 11 November at about 17:00 after the parents of the three minor boys he had allegedly been molesting opened a case against him.
It is alleged that since 2015, the suspect had on various occasions forced the three boys, aged 10, 13 and 14 to perform oral sex on him.
These incidents allegedly occurred behind the Mariental Truck Port and at the dumpsite.
The latest incident was on Friday at around 15:00 at the dumpsite, where the suspect forced the 10-year-old to perform oral sex, and the minor told his parents.
Other victims then also spoke out against Byl.
The matter has been postponed to 14 December for the accused to get legal representation and for further police investigations.
Byl remains in custody.
