OSHIKUKU, 15 NOV (NAMPA) – Two roads were officially opened in the Omusati Region by Minister of Works and Transport Alpheus !Naruseb on Monday.
The 16 kilometre (km) District Road (DR) 3615 is situated at Oshikuku in the Elim Constituency and the 98km DR3635 at Amwaamba in the Okahao Constituency, respectively.
The road from Oshikuku to Onamutuku was upgraded from gravel to bitumen standard, while the road between Amwaamba and Omutambowomawe was improved from a sand track to gravel standard.
!Naruseb said the main objective of these developments is to improve accessibility between villages and towns, reduce road user costs, reduce travel time and enhance road safety.
He said the upgrades will ensure easier access to facilities such as clinics, hospitals and schools for community members.
“Our economy is growing and the demand for road improvements and accessibility has increased significantly over the past few years,” he said.
The minister also said the increasing number of accidents on unserviced roads has raised serious concern and added to the demand for upgrades on Namibian roads.
A total of 305 people were employed during the upgrading of the roads.
