Three killed in head-on collision on Otjiwarongo-Kalkfeld road

OTJIWARONGO, 04 NOV (NAMPA) - A 62-year-old man, his 44-year-old wife and a 34-year-old female passenger died instantly on Thursday evening after an Isuzu pick-up they were travelling in was in a head-on collision with a truck on the Kalkfeld-Otjiwarongo road.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Detective Chief Inspector, Roy Makwatikizo Friday morning confirmed the accident to Nampa, saying it occurred about 55 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo.
Makwatikizo said the names of the people who had died could not be revealed as their close relatives had not yet been informed of the incident.
He said the deceased were allegedly transporting two heads of cattle in the vehicle, and were coming from Okakarara to attend a wedding at Omaruru in the Erongo Region.
One of the cattle also died on the spot, while the other broke both its legs.
According to Makwatikizo, the Isuzu pick-up was travelling from the direction of Otjiwarongo towards Kalkfeld at the time of accident, while the truck was headed in the opposite direction.
The 43-year-old truck driver survived the accident.
He was admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital for injuries and was said to be in a stable condition.
Police investigations continue.
