Four die in head-on collision

OSHAKATI, 29 OCT (NAMPA) – Four people died in a head-on collision on the Ondangwa-Omuthiya road on Friday.
The accident occurred at around 12h30.
According to a police report availed to Nampa by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s crime investigations coordinator in the Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua, the accident took place at Oshapapa village, some 15 kilometres from Ondangwa.
She said 66-year-old John Nakaambo, the sole occupant of a Toyota Prado with Windhoek registration swerved to avoid cattle. He had been driving toward Omuthiya and collided with a Toyota double cab with Walvis Bay.
Nakaambo reportedly sustained minor injuries.
There were seven passengers in the other vehicle.
Martin Mafita, the driver of the double cab and three passengers – the 35-year-old Fried Wilpard; 11-year-old Tomas Mafita and 46-year-old Hilma Shikalakuti - all died on the spot.
The four surviving passengers - Selma Shilongo; Sylvia Mafita; Valeria Vaulikeni and 10-month-old Kristine Mafita - were all admitted to the Onandjokwe hospital.
The baby was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Shikalakuti worked at the Kuisebmund Police Station, while Shilongo was stationed at the police station in Narraville in Walvis Bay.
They were on their way to a relative's wedding.
Their next of kin have been informed.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
