Woman killed by crocodile at Mukwe

RUNDU, 24 OCT (NAMPA) – A 42-year-old woman died after a crocodile attacked her while she was fetching water from the Okavango River at Mukwe in the Kavango East Region on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Theresia Nangura Shathiyama.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Acting Crime Investigations Coordinator for the region, Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Monday the woman had gone to the river to fetch water for cooking and bathing when the crocodile dragged her into the river.
Half of her body from the chest up was recovered Saturday afternoon and taken to the Andara District Hospital.
Her next of kin have been informed.
In April this year, a 16-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a crocodile while fetching water in the Zambezi Region, and in January, 18-year-old Thikundeko Kandenga was attacked by a crocodile while swimming in a river at Rudhiva village in the Mukwe area on Saturday. She was rescued by others who pulled her from the crocodile’s jaws.
