ONGWEDIVA, 18 OCT (NAMPA) King Kauluma (KK) Palace Football Club (FC) is the first champion of the Silver Wolf Spur Ongwediva-sponsored football tournament that ended at Oshakati in the Oshana Region on Sunday.
Coordinator of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in the Oshana Region, Sem Nekwaya disclosed this to Nampa here on Tuesday.
All 12 teams from the Oshana Regional Second Division League and top three teams each from the sister regions of Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto participated in the tournament.
Golden Bigs, Ongwediva City and KK Palace, the three local teams affiliated to the North-West First Division League, also participated in the tournament, which Silver Wolf Spur Ongwediva sponsored with N.dollars 90 000.
KK Palace beat Future FC from Omusati Region 1-0 in the tournaments final encounter held at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.
In the first semi-final, KK Palace defeated Ongwediva City 4-3 on penalties, following their one-all stalemate in regular time, while Future FC beat Golden Bigs also 4-3 on penalties, following another one-all draw in the second semi-final.
The tournament started its activities on the weekend of 01 and 02 October.
Silver Wolf Spur Ongwedivas Marketing Manager, Deon Britz said during the draw of the tournament last month his company decided to sponsor the tournament to entertain football loving people of northern Namibia.
As the champion, KK Palace won N.dollars 10 000, a floating trophy and 25 gold medals, while Future FC took home N.dollars 5 000 and 25 silver medals.
Ongwediva City humiliated Golden Bigs with a 6-0 defeat in the third position play-off to take home N.dollars 3 000 and bronze medals. Golden Bigs received N.dollars 2 000 for fourth place.
