WINDHOEK, 18 OCT (NAMPA) - Leading Namibian boxing personalities, Nestor Tobias and Imms Moses, are attending the 29th Annual World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Convention underway in Puerto Rico.
A media release availed to Nampa by the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy on Tuesday said Tobias is representing the academy, while Moses is representing African Connection Boxing.
“The MTC Nestor Sunshine Academy is a world class promotions academy and if we wish to continue doing business with the rest of the world, then we need to be where everything happens, because this platform gives you an opportunity to foster business relationships and make important deals,” Tobias was quoted as saying.
He described the atmosphere to be great, saying they are in the company of world champions accompanied by their promoters.
Speaking to Nampa telephonically on Tuesday from San Juan city, Moses shared the same sentiments, saying the convention is a platform where boxing personalities meet to share ideas and improve the sport.
“We will discuss various issues from training to rules of boxing, to promotional issues as a way of improving the sport.”
The WBO Convention brings together the world’s leading promoters and champions, and serves as an excellent networking platform. The most important part of the convention is where promoters are given an opportunity to market their fighters and motivate to the committee for better world rankings on the basis of merit.
Tobias said he is looking forward to the awards ceremony on Wednesday evening, which is part of the convention.
“The MTC Sunshine Academy has worked hard this year and we are hoping for the best. Part of our responsibility here is also to market Namibia as a suitable destination because the WBO continually looks for new countries to host the convention.”
The convention started on Monday and will end on Friday.
The MTC Sunshine team will however leave Puerto Rico on Thursday and head straight to Johannesburg in time for Sacky “Izinyoka” Shikukutu’s fight against Chris van Heerden, which takes place on Saturday at the Emperors Palace.
