One poacher shot during illegal hunt in Bwabwata National Park

WINDHOEK, 09 OCT (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Zambezi Region is in search of three persons in connection with illegal hunting and possession of an unlicensed firearm at the Bwabwata National Park in the Kongola Constituency.
NamPol Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi told members of the media here on Sunday three persons fled the scene on Friday after exchanging fire with the police.
A fourth person, believed to a Zambian national, was hit by a bullet in the thigh.
He was taken to Katima Mulilo State Hospital and later transferred to Rundu State Hospital, where he is reportedly in a stable condition.
A 375 rifle, 16 rounds of ammunition, an axe, a knife, a screwdriver and two elephant tusks were recovered.
By Sunday, the three persons were still on the run and anyone with information is requested to contact the Katima Mulilo Police.
Police investigations continue.
