One person dies, another injured in car accident near Okahandja

OKAHANDJA, 01 OCT (NAMPA)- One person died and another seriously injured in a horrific accident over lunch hour near the Osona Base Military School on the B1 road south of Okahandja on Tuesday.
The accident involved a Volkswagen Polo with a Swakopmund registration number and a Mercedes Benz from Windhoek.
Eyewitnesses told Nampa that both vehicles were driving from Windhoek, and the Polo apparently tried to overtake the Mercedes but hit it on its right side, causing both vehicles to overturn.
One person died on the spot, and another was rushed to a medical facility in Windhoek with serious injuries.
The deceaseds next of kin are yet to be informed, and police investigations continue.
The emergency services from Windhoek and Okahandja, as well as members of law-enforcement units of the City Police, Okahandja Municipality and the Namibia Defence Force rushed to the accident scene.
Traffic piled up in both directions for about an hour until the road was cleared.
