WINDHOEK, 26 SEP (NAMPA) The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region are investigating a case of culpable homicide after 28-year-old man died when the vehicle he was driving overturned.
The incident took place on the Otjiwarongo/Kalkfeld main road about two kilometres from Otjiwarongo on Friday, Police Inspector Slogan Matheus told a media briefing here on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Erickson Sam and his next of kin have been informed.
It is alleged that Sam, who was driving a sedan, just lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. Two passengers in the vehicle, his 25-year-old wife and four-year-old daughter, sustained serious injuries and were treated first at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital before they were transferred to Windhoek.
In another incident, NamPol officers at Otavi are investigating a hit-and-run case after a pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene on Sunday.
The incident took place on the B1 main road, about five kilometres north of Otavi. The victim broke both his legs and an arm, and is being treated at the Tsumeb State Hospital while Police investigations continue.
The Okakarara Police Station in the Otjozondjupa Region, is also investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after the driver of a Toyota pick-up lost control of the car and caused it to overturned on the gravel road between Okakarara and Okamatapati on Saturday.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was first treated at the Okakarara State Hospital before he was transferred to Windhoek.
Four other occupants in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
In an unrelated incident, the police in the Ohangwena Region are investigating a case of culpable homicide after an eight-year-old boy died on the spot when he was hit by a car on Saturday on the Ondangwa/Oshikango main road.
The incident took place at the Onhuno T-junction. The deceased was identified as Johannes Alfeus.
