SWAKOPMUND, 30 SEP (NAMPA) – A man who stands accused of murdering a 22-year-old man during a fight at a bar here over the weekend, was denied bail on Monday.
Thomas Haundeya, 31, appeared on a charge of murder before Magistrate Jorina Jagger in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court.
According to Public Prosecutor Erastus Hatutale, the State opposed bail due to the seriousness of the offence and because it would not be in the interest of the public to grant bail.
The matter was postponed to 26 November 2013 for further investigations. Haundeya remains in police custody.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s acting Crime Investigations’ Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu informed Nampa on Sunday that the deceased, Hardley Kavendji, was stabbed to death during a fight at a bar in Swakopmund’s Mondesa residential area on Saturday between 01h00 and 03h00.
According to Iikuyu, Kavendji and the suspect were allegedly involved in a fight involving a number of other men, and the suspect stabbed Kavendji twice.
The suspect was arrested the same morning.
