Econolux bus burn

WINDHOEK, 11 SEP (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police (NamPol) are investigating a fire incident after a luxury bus belonging to the Econolux Bus Service company caught fire while travelling on the Rehoboth-Windhoek main road on Friday.
NamPol Spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus told a media conference here Sunday afternoon the driver observed fire coming from the bus engine and immediately stopped the vehicle about 30 kilometres from Rehoboth at about 16h30.
All 48 passengers on board were evacuated. They are Government secretaries who were returning from the Oanob Dam, where they had been celebrating World Secretary Day.
The bus burnt completely and only a few bags and other personal belongings of passengers were lost in the blaze.
In a separate development, a 17-year-old learner at the Wennie du Plessis Secondary School at Gobabis drowned on Friday at about 22h00 at the Safari Hotel swimming pool in the capital.
Surprise Kasuto was in Windhoek with other learners from his school for a prize-giving ceremony at the hotel.
His next of kin are already informed and police investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances that led to the loss of life.
