Okakarara trade fair impresses VP

OKAKARARA, 10 SEP (NAMPA) - The economic growth experienced by the Okakarara Annual Trade Fair is impressive, Vice-President Dr Nickey Iyambo has said.
Opening the 2016 trade fair here on Friday, he said the event is growing economically from strength to strength and attracting hundreds of visitors and exhibitors from over the country.
The 10th edition of the fair kicked off Monday and ends Sunday.
It is taking place under the theme ‘Continue to create business innovation and opportunities for economic growth’.
A total of 300 exhibitors are taking part this year – 30 more than last year. They include 280 local businesspeople, livestock farmers, small and medium entrepreneurs, Government ministries and corporate companies.
“This year’s edition has attracted 20 exhibitors from other countries like South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe and India,” said Iyambo.
He said approximately 16 000 visitors are expected to view stalls at the fair this year, compared to about 13 000 last year.
Iyambo urged businesspeople to network with their clients, saying it is for this purpose the Okakarara trade fair was established in 2006.
Owner of a snake park from Swakopmund in the Erongo Region, Stretch Combrink said he exhibits nine different snakes at the show and the attendance is great.
“I am happy with the number of people visiting our stall since the first day we came here,” he said, adding he might return next year.
Kortilde Uukule of Namutenya and Nanghelo Trading CC prepares traditional meals and is happy it sells out every day.
Okakarara Mayor Olga Tjiurutue-Katukundu, on her part, said her office will continue to make this annual business activity better and conducive to all exhibitors and the general public.
