OTJIWARONGO, 07 SEP (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party District Coordinator for Otjiwarongo Constituency, Jefta Veripi Kasuto has died.
The 64-year-old Kasuto died at Lady Pohamba Private Hospital in the capital in the early hours of Monday morning.
Confirming the news, Swapo-Party Regional Coordinator for Otjozondjupa, Susan Hikopua said Kasuto had complained of not feeling well for the past three weeks, adding that during that period he was in and out of hospital at Otjiwarongo.
Kasuto was a former People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) combatant who left Namibia in 1972 for Angola and later Zambia. He returned to Namibia in 1990 when the country gained its independence from South African colonial rule.
He served as Swapo Otjiwarongo District Coordinator since 2012.
“He had dedicated his entire life in building our party in this region,” said Hikopua.
A memorial service in Kasuto’s honour is set to take place Thursday evening at the Swanevelder Community Hall in Otjiwarongo.
Kasuto will be laid to rest on Saturday at Okandongo village in the Okakarara Constituency.
He leaves behind his wife, four children and an 84-year-old mother.
