WINDHOEK, 04 SEP (NAMPA) – Jonas Junius Jonas has been allocated a docket judge for his case, after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the recently concluded 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Jonas was arrested on 07 August 2016 in connection with an alleged sexual assault at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Jesse Schickerling, the chef de mission of the Namibian team to Rio, said in a statement on Saturday the legal practitioners also submitted Jonas' preliminary defence on Friday.
Coach Jacob Gariseb and boxers Mathias Hamunyela and Lazarus Shaningwa, the military attachee at the Namibian Embassy in Brazil, were listed as witnesses.
The boxer’s lawyers are said to have requested the judge to speed up the legal proceedings and take their evidence before the end of the Paralympic Games and it is expected that a ruling will be delivered by next week.
Jonas was placed under the care of the Namibian Embassy in Brazil, after having successfully applied for bail, and will remain under their care until the conclusion of the case.
