WINDHOEK, 02 SEP (NAMPA) – The senior national football team arrived in Dakar, Senegal early Friday morning for their final 2017 Afcon qualifier match against Senegal.
The team left Namibia via South Africa Thursday, where seven South African-based players joined them en route to Dakar.
Speaking to Nampa from Dakar Friday, Coach Ricardo Mannetti said the spirit is high in camp, despite hiccups during their preparations over the past two weeks.
“We arrived safely in Senegal, treatment is good so far. All 18 players are here and we will have a training session at 17h30 Senegal time. There are no injuries and the weather is okay, not too hot,” he said.
Senegal has already qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) but is still taking the match seriously, and has called up most of their Europe-based players.
“So we have to be at our best to beat them,” he added.
Namibia lost 0-2 against Senegal here on 05 September 2015.
The Namibian players are: Maxmillian Mbaeva (Golden Arrows); Virgil Vries (Maritzburg United); Costa Angula (Unattached); Chris Katjiukua (Golden Arrows); Ferdinand Karongee (Tigers); Tiberius Lombard (Tura Magic); Edmund Kambanda (UNAM); Oswaldo Xamseb (Tura Magic); Deon Hotto (Bloemfontein Celtic); Hendrick Somaeb (Unattached); Petrus Shitembi (Unattached); Absalom Iimbondi (Tigers); Larry Horaeb (Black Africa); Ananias Gebhardt (Jomo Cosmos); Wangu Gome (Bidvest Wits); Benson Shilongo (Platinum Stars); Dynamo Fredericks (Black Africa); and Itamunua Keimuine (Tura Magic).
