Two armed robberies reported in Walvis over the weekend

SWAKOPMUND, 29 SEP (NAMPA) – Two separate armed robberies were reported at Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region over the past weekend.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s acting Crime Investigations’ Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu told Nampa on Sunday the first incident occurred on Friday at around 23h15 at a gambling house in the centre of town.
He explained that four suspects, of which two were armed, entered the gambling house and told people inside the establishment to lay down on the floor.
The suspects managed to escape with N.dollars 18 000 in coins.
Iikuyu said no arrests have been made yet and the police are investigating the matter.
During a separate incident which occurred between 01h00 and 01h30 on Saturday morning, seven burglars broke into a house where Chinese nationals reside.
The suspects, who were armed with knives, entered the house situated in the central area of the harbour town by breaking open its kitchen door.
Iikuyu said the suspects got away with eight laptops, seven cell phones, cash in different currencies which amounted to about N.dollars 30 000, and clothes.
“No arrests have been made, but the Chinese officials have offered a reward of N.dollars 5 000 for any information with regards to the whereabouts of the suspects,” he indicated.
