Man accused of raping and murdering stepdaughter

WINDHOEK, 29 SEP (NAMPA) – A 40-year-old man is suspected of raping and murdering his stepdaughter in the Hardap Region.
The Head of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations’ Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said at the weekly crime briefing on Sunday the police at Mariental are investigating a case of rape, murder and defeating the course of justice, as well as perjury, after the man allegedly raped and murdered his 18-year-old stepdaughter.
The incident took place at an unknown time on 19 September this year at Farm Jakkals Fontein. It is alleged that David Kido raped the girl before burying her body in an aardvark hole and reporting the victim as missing to the police. He was arrested on the same day and appeared in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The case was postponed to 21 November this year in order for Kido to obtain legal representation.
In an incident reported at Omukondo village in the Omusati Region’s Okahao Constituency, a 48-year-old male was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl on several occasions.
The man reportedly also attempted to rape another girl aged 11.
The suspect is said to be a neighbour of the two girls, and allegedly raped or attempted to rape the girls on Thursday and on 07 September this year. He is expected to appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Meanwhile in Okahao, a mentally ill 18-year-old girl was raped by a neighbour on Friday.
The incident took place at around 13h00 in the Oshilemba village in the Okahao Constituency.
The girl had been sleeping under a tree when the suspect allegedly picked her up and carried her into his room where he had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
A 32-year-old male suspect was arrested and will appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In the Tsandi Constituency a case of attempted murder was opened after a cattle herder allegedly beat another herder with a stick at the Otjiwanda Cattle Post.
The man sustained injuries to his neck and face in the incident which occurred on Saturday at around 23h30.
The victim was rushed to the Tsandi District Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.
It is alleged that the fight was caused by a joke which had turned sour. The suspect will appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
