WALVIS BAY, 26 AUG (NAMPA) – The commemoration of Heroes’ Day is a celebration of bravery and the fearless acts of freedom fighters to achieve a noble end, which was freedom and independence, says President Hage Geingob.
The President was speaking at the Heroes’ Day commemoration event, which started Friday morning at Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond stadium.
Geingob said in his keynote address Namibians should be grateful to be living life without difficulties and should thus guard freedom and peace jealously.
Over 13 000 people turned up at the stadium as from early Friday morning, dressed mostly in traditional attire and brandishing the Namibian flag. Amongst the invited guests are liberation struggle icons Andimba Toivo ya Toivo and Ben Amathila.
The event is also being attended by Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers and representatives of the diplomatic corps and opposition parties, the Namibian Defence Force and Namibian Police Force.
