SWAKOPMUND, 24 AUG (NAMPA) - Air Namibia will increase its flights on domestic routes such as the Eros-Ondangwa and the Eros-Rundu/Katima Mulilo route, in an effort to reduce cost to consumers and make domestic flights more affordable.
The changes in the routes are effective from 04 September this year.
Air Namibia Manager of Corporate Communications, Paul Nakawa confirmed the developments to Nampa on Wednesday saying it is part of the national airline’s goal to reduce costs to customers by operating the routes more frequently.
“The decision to increase flight frequency and capacity on domestic routes is in line with our strategic objective of making air travel affordable, and this is just the beginning. As opportunities for fixed cost reduction from increased aircraft utilisation are realised, the more the benefit in cost reduction will be passed onto the end users, our esteemed flying public.”
He explained that an additional flight was launched on the Eros – Ondangwa route on Mondays, from the current one flight to two flights that day.
On Mondays, passengers to Ondangwa leave Eros on flight SW105 at 14h30 to reach Ondangwa at 15h30.
The same day, SW106 departs Ondangwa at 16h00 to land at Eros at 17h00.
Nakawa noted that a new flight frequency for Saturdays was introduced, increasing the current single flight per day to two flights.
Here, SW101 leaves Eros at 07h00 and arrives in Ondangwa at 08h00, while SW102 depart from Ondangwa at 08h30 and land at Eros at 09h30.
The communications manager also said the national airline is to introduce changes in the Rundu and Katima Mulilo route.
“Flights to Rundu and Katima Mulilo will be separated, meaning that flights to Rundu will no longer go via Katima Mulilo, and flights to Katima Mulilo will no longer go via Rundu. We will introduce direct and non-stop flights between Eros and Rundu, three times per week to be operated on Sundays,
Wednesdays and Fridays.”
He added that the new service of direct and non-stop flights between Eros and Katima Mulilo will remain on four flights per week, to be operated on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Departure time from Eros to Katima Mulilo on SW133 is 10h05 to arrive at 11h35 while SW134 leaves Katima at 12h15 to land in Eros at 13h55.
For those going to Rundu, SW125 departs at 14h30 from Eros to land at 15h35. Flights between Eros and Rundu are available on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
From Rundu, flight SW126 takes off at 16h05 and lands at Eros at 17h10.
“It is our wish that this arrangement will continue going forward as it will help us create a situation whereby every Namibia will afford to fly, removing pressure from our roads,” added Xavier Masule, General Manager for Commercial Services at Air Namibia.
