OTJIWARONGO, 24 AUG (NAMPA) - The Otjiwarongo Municipality and City of Windhoek on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on various economic development, human resource and exchange programmes.
Windhoek Mayor Muesee Kazapua and Otjiwarongo Mayor Bennes Haimbondi signed the MoU on behalf of the two local authorities.
Both mayors emphasised their wishes to see the agreement become practical.
The two institutions agreed to foster and promote the existing partnership they entered into in 2003.
“Cooperation in human resources and capacity building in the form of staff and councillor exchange, and training programmes in areas of mutual interests must be strengthened,” said Kazapua.
The Windhoek mayor said the sharing of strategies in areas of local economic development and tourism also needs to be strengthened between the two local authorities.
Other areas the MoU covers include cooperation in strategic management in areas of restructuring and organisational engineering; HIV/Aids prevention strategies; and employee wellness programmes.
The two local authorities also agreed to each nominate a contact person, who will be responsible for implementing the cooperation agreements and other interactions.
The MoU is effective from the date of signing and each party is expected to fund the costs involved in the activities of the cooperation for a period of five years.
Several local authority councillors and senior managers from the Otjiwarongo Municipality and City of Windhoek witnessed the signing of the MoU.
