WALVIS BAY, 14 AUG (NAMPA) - The Langer Heinrich Uranium mine football team on Saturday defeated Swakop Sport 3-0 to win the Top Score 7-A-Side coastal tournament.
The tournament, which returned to the coast for the second time from central Namibia, kicked off on Wednesday at the Atlantis Sports Stadium in Walvis Bay.
Dollin Humphries netted three goals, including a header, in the second half of the final game to win his a team N.dollars 10 000, floating trophy and gold medals.
His teammate, Benito du Toit, is the top goal scorer of the tournament with eight goals.
Swakop Sport received N.dollars 7 500 and silver medals.
Last years winner, Sky Sport Enterprise, did not participate this year.
In the third place playoff game between Namib Mills Wales and Brazilian Navy team, Eugene Hangubeb scored a goal in the last three minutes, putting Wales in third place.
Hangubeb scored four goals for his team in this tournament.
Their prize money is N.dollars 3 500 with bronze medals.
The Brazilian Navy team took fourth place and won N.dollars 2 000.
Public Relations Officer at Namib Mills Ashante Manetti thanked the teams for participating.
The reason we do this as a company is part of spending time with the community we operate from. It is also a chance to uplift our community and to bring the spirit of togetherness to the towns, she said.
Namib Mills is the corporate company under which Top Score falls.
Tournament administrator Cynthia Balzar added that the next coastal tournament is expected to take place in September 2017.
We want to put it in September when it is a bit warmer, as you can see August is cold, she said.
Balzar also said suggestions that the tournament should take place at the Kuisebmond Sports Stadium, closer to majority of the community, will be considered.
More than16 teams from different companies participated in the tournament this year.
