Third edition of Navachab Marathon launched

WINDHOEK, 09 AUG (NAMPA) – The third edition of the Navachab Half-Marathon was launched in the capital on Tuesday.
The 21.1 kilometres race is scheduled to take place on 17 September 2016 at Karibib in the Erongo Region, and the organisers say more exciting activities are scheduled for this year.
Navachab Gold Mine is availing N.dollars 45 000 for the hosting of the event, while First National Bank (FNB) Namibia has sponsored N.dollars 5 000 and the Karibib Town Council, N.dollars 6 500.
The Regional Sports Officer for Omaruru in the Erongo Region, Berthold Karumendu said during the launch at the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) offices in the capital on Tuesday the event is being held in efforts to ‘revitalise’ road running.
During the second edition of the race in 2015, Uveni-Nawa Kuugongelwa, a long distance runner from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), was the overall winner in the men’s category, while Alina Armas, also from the NDF, won the women’s category.
Runners of the half-marathon are divided into four age categories the race.
The categories are senior (20-39 years); junior category (13- 19 years); veteran category (40-49), and master category (50 years and more). All four categories include men and women.
