Hamunyela out of Rio Olympics

WINDHOEK, 09 AUG (NAMPA) - Namibian light flyweight boxer Mathias Hamunyela has been eliminated from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games currently underway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He was sent packing after losing in Round of 32 of the games on Monday against Zhakypov Birzhan of Kazakhstan in the 49 kilogramme (kg) category.
Hamunyela won his first fight at the Summer Games against Rufat Huseynov of Azerbaijan in three sets on Saturday to progress to Round of 32 of the competition.
He is the 2015 All Africa Games (AAG) boxing silver medallist.
The Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games started on 05 August and end 21 August.
Other Namibians also eliminated from the games are road cyclists Dan Craven and Vera Adrian, who did not finish their races; and clay target shooter Gaby Ahrens, who ended ninth in the qualification rounds.
Other athletes representing in Namibia at the 2016 Rio summer games are marathon runners Helalia Johannes, Beata Naigambo, Alina Armas and Mynhardt Kauanivi and cyclists Michelle Vorster.
The fate of Namibian light welterweight boxers Junius Jonas who was scheduled to fight on Thursday, is not yet clear after he was arrested for sexual harassment at the Olympic Village on Monday.
