WINDHOEK, 01 AUG (NAMPA) – A 26-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself in Windhoek on Monday.
Both died on the spot.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus informed Nampa on Monday the incident occurred at about 00h30 at the Etale Bar opposite the Pick n Pay Katutura shopping complex, along Independence Avenue.
According to Matheus, eyewitnesses saw the deceased go to the bar where the 23-year-old woman was working as the bar lady, before the incident occurred.
The man allegedly waited for all the customers inside the bar to leave after closing hours.
Two gunshots were then heard from inside the bar.
Matheus added that a firearm registered in the name of the male deceased was found at the scene along with two spent cartridges.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established and investigations are underway.
Both deceased persons’ names could not be released as their next of kin have not yet been informed.
This is the third homicide involving intimate relationships in a period of two months in the capital. In June, 17-year-old Charmaine Byl was stabbed to death by her boyfriend at home in the Agtste Laan informal settlement.
The suspect is still at large.
In the second incident, a 33-year-old woman was hacked to death with an axe by her boyfriend at the Blikkiesdorp informal settlement in Grootfontein.
The 37-year-old suspect allegedly fled the murder scene, and his body was found hanging from a tree near Grootfontein more than one week later.
He was identified as Gottfried Hamunyela Mangundu.
