WINDHOEK, 29 JUL (NAMPA) - The University of Namibia (UNAM) Rugby Club is ready to defend the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premiership title it won a year ago.
UNAM face Western Suburbs in the Namibia Rugby Premier League play-offs on Saturday at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital.
Wanderers and United are the other two teams in the play-offs, which will decide who plays in the final.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, UNAM coach Johan Diergaardt said his players are ready to defend the trophy which they won for the first time in 2015.
“We are playing Western Suburbs and they are a dangerous team that has been in this position for many years, but we are optimistic despite knowing that the game will be tough.
“Our team is made out of youngsters who are very hungry to win, and I believe in these youngster will do the job on the day,” he said.
Three UNAM players will be out of the team on the day due to national team preparations for the Africa Cup match against Zimbabwe on 06 August.
Diergaardt is, however, confident in the rest of the players.
“My front row props in the squad are not a hundred per cent because they picked up some knocks but they will feature in the team on Saturday.
“It is nice to be a champion but its hard work to be at the top and we will work hard to retain that title again this year,” stated Diergaardt.
The UNAM vs Western Suburbs game will start at 16h05 and the Wanderers vs United match at 17h50.
The winners will then meet in the final on 13 August at the same venue.
