WINDHOEK, 24 JUL (NAMPA) – Long distance runners Aaron Tjivambi and Sofia Nambabi won the men and women’s categories of the 2016 Nedbank Citi Run marathon in the capital on Sunday.
The 42 kilometre (km) race started and ended at the Zoo Park in the city centre.
Tjivambi, a runner for the Namibian Defence Force, said it felt good to win. He said the race was well organised and it encouraged him to run well.
“It was really a well organised race and the course was really tough because it had a lot of hills and it was very cold in the morning, which did not make it an easy race to run.
“Today’s race was good preparation for the next marathon that I will participate in very soon,” he said.
Women’s category winner Nambabi said the course was very tough but she was happy to be crowned the champion of the 2016 Nedbank Citi Run Champion.
“I did not have a lot of challenges today, but the wind and the hills made it a bit tough for me. I feel happy to be the women’s champion of this year’s event as it encourages me to work hard for the next event I participate in,” said Nambabi.
