OSHAKATI, 20 JUL (NAMPA) – The Management Committee (MC) meeting of the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN), will take place at Ondangwa on Monday, said the newly-elected ALAN president Katrina Shimbulu.
Shimbulu said this to Nampa on Wednesday when she pointed out that it will be the first ALAN MC meeting since the conclusion of the association’s 57th congress held at Oshakati earlier this month.
“We will rectify the resolutions we took during our congress at the one-day MC meeting on Monday and it is at this meeting where members of the ALAN executive will be announced to the public,” said Shimbulu, who serves also as the Oshakati mayor.
The president, vice-president and 19 elected members of ALAN form part of the MC, while other members are serving in different committees such as legal and policy; publicity; finance; and Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Persons from 57 local authorities in Namibia are members of ALAN.
“We will also be holding a one-week meeting for members of the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on AIDS/HIV at the Airport Lodge in Ondangwa as from Monday.”
Shimbulu is leading the association for the next five years, succeeding the former mayor of the City of Windhoek Agnes Kafula who is now a Swapo Party member of the National Assembly.
