KALKFELD, 13 JUL (NAMPA) - The Otjozondjupa Regional Governor’s office on Tuesday distributed lucerne to livestock farmers at Kalkfeld settlement.
The 1 033 bales of lucerne were donated by the Ministry of Land Reform for distribution to needy farmers.
Otjozondjupa Governor, Otto Ipinge tasked the Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor, Julius Neumbo to distribute it to 69 livestock farmers at Kalkfeld - situated approximately 70 kilometres west of Otjiwarongo.
Neumbo said livestock farmers in Ovitoto in the Omatako Constituency will also benefit from the donation.
The beneficiaries farm with large and small stock in and around Kalkfeld, an area hard hit by the drought.
Bartholomew Kairua and his family have 25 cattle and received 10 bundles of dried grass for their livestock.
Kairua said the donated grass will last him about two months.
Amongst the other beneficiaries, Daniel Kamati who own 42 cattle received 17 bales, while Theo Tjitombo and his sister Vicky Tjitombo with 53 cattle, received 21 bales of lucerne.
They thanked Government for the donation and called on Ipinge to continue soliciting for more fodder for their livestock.
One bundle of dried lucerne in local shops such as Agra at Otjiwarongo is sold at N.dollars 121.
President Hage Geingob last month declared a state of emergency due to the drought.
