HOSEA KUTAKO, 07 JUL (NAMPA) - The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) on Thursday welcomed Condor Airline's Windhoek to Munich temporary flight service at the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA).
The airline’s flight, DE 2295, which on Wednesday departed from Munich in Germany carrying about 240 passengers, touched down at about Thursday for the very first time on Namibian soil.
“I’m really proud to be the first Condor captain flying the Munich to Windhoek service and we are happy to connect Windhoek with south Germany, and also with Austria and Switzerland,” said Quirin Rall, captain of Condor Airline, during the inaugural flight ceremony at HKIA.
Condor is Germany’s third-largest commercial airline based in Frankfurt.
The temporary weekly flights between Windhoek and Munich until late October 2016 add to the airline’s two regular flights between Frankfurt and Windhoek.
The connection between Windhoek and Munich is offered every Thursday until October 2016.
Flight arrival is at 07h00 and departure at 18h55 Namibian wintertime.
Speaking at the same occasion, NAC Business Strategic Executive Toska Sem welcomed the airline’s new service.
“At this stage, in terms of our strategic plan, we are in our expansion and growth perspective and that is why we are really trying hard to ensure that we expand our route development for us to really provide a variety of network and a variety of choice to our customers,” he said.
Sem noted that the NAC is expecting an increase in new routes towards September this year.
“We are looking at Qatar Airways that will be coming shortly,” he said.
Qatar Airways is the state-owned airline of the State of Qatar, located in southwest Asia.
