OTJIWARONGO, 29 JUN (NAMPA) – Okakarara Senior Secondary School (SSS) will on Thursday host a gala dinner to raise funds for renovations at the school.
The gala dinner, which will take place at the Okakarara Trade Fair Centre, is being organised by the office of the Otjozondjupa Regional Governor.
Otjozondjupa Governor Otto Ipinge told Nampa in an interview on Wednesday the school is one of the oldest in the region and is in bad condition.
The money raised during the event will amongst others be used for the renovation of the school’s hall and replacing the fence.
Ipinge said the hall where the Grade 10 and Grade 12 learners write their final examinations at the end of every year is dilapidated and needs a lot of work.
He invited local and regional constituency councillors, business people, farmers from the Okakarara area and community members to support the event.
Ipinge said any pledges or contributions in the form of money and livestock are welcome as the school needs the support.
The school’s principal, Eliah Nguarambuka on Tuesday said approximately N.dollars 3 million is needed for the renovations. They want to, amongst others, replace the wire fence with palisades, fill up the cracks on the walls and repaint the school.
Okakarara SSS was officially opened in 1973, and currently has 595 learners.
The Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, amongst others is expected to attend the gala dinner.
