Accident at Eenhana claims five lives

WINDHOEK, 27 JUN (NAMPA) - Five people, including a pensioner and a baby, died in an accident at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Sunday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus informed Nampa on Monday the accident occurred around 15h00 when a Toyota pick-up collided head-on with a sedan.
The sedan had six occupants, five of whom succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the pick-up’s only occupant was the driver.
The driver of the pick-up allegedly attempted to overtake the vehicle in front of him when he drove into the sedan that was coming from the opposite direction.
He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Oshakati State Hospital, along with the only surviving occupant of the sedan, identified as Emilia Iipinge.
The deceased are Josef Ndemumana, who was the driver of the sedan; Rachel Paulus aged 54; Meriam Shapange (age unknown); Fransina Nghikufilwa, 61; and the baby, Grace Nangolo, whose exact age is not known.
Matheus said their next of kin have been informed.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver of the pick-up.
