Wanderers defeat Suburbs in exciting encounter

WINDHOEK, 26 JUN (NAMPA) – Windhoek-based Namibia Rugby Premier League log leader Wanderers on Saturday defeated Western Suburbs 27-22 in an exciting league match at the Suburbs sports field in Khomasdal.
Both sides got off to a great start, but it was Wanderers who opened the scoring with their first try as early as the 10th minute through Dion Venter, while MP Pretorius failed to converted from the spot.
Pretorius also failed to convert from a penalty spot when the referee awarded them one in the 13th minute.
Suburbs only scored their first try of the game in the 20th minute. Japhat Tjindo ran in a try to level the score but they failed to convert from the spot kick.
Wanderers took control of the game before the half-time break when Dirk de Meyer scored their second try for the day and Heico Prinsloo converted to take a seven point lead.
Suburbs kept fighting as two minutes later they replied with a try by Virjil Bester in the 33rd minute and Gino Wilson made no mistake as he converted from the spot. Wanderers took the lead again before half-time with a Prinsloo drop kick.
The half-time score was 15-12 for Wanderers.
In the second half, Suburbs came out the dominant side and leveled the score in the 44th minute of the game with Wilson’s drop kick that made it 15 points all.
In the 53rd minute of the game Wanderers’ Theo Coetzee scored a try but Prinsloo failed to convert from the spot.
The score was 20-15 for Wanderers.
The home side only took the lead for the first time in the game in the 70th minute, when Roderique Victor score a try and Wilson converted to make it 22-20 for Suburbs.
With only two minutes to go Coetzee showed why they are the log leader as he hammered the final nail in Suburbs’ coffin with his second try for Wanderers and it was converted to give them a 27-22 point win.
