WINDHOEK, 26 JUN (NAMPA) Three cases of rape, one involving a 14-year-old girl, were reported to the police over the weekend.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus said during the weekly crime briefing here on Sunday the 14-year-old girl was raped by an 18-year-old suspect on Monday.
The incident occurred at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Monday and was reported to the Eenhana Police Station on Friday.
The victim had been asleep along with another girl, aged 13, in a room which the suspect entered by force.
The suspect alleged attempted to remove the pyjamas of the younger girl but after failing to do so, turned to the 14-year-old girl whom he managed to undress and raped.
The suspect was arrested on charged of rape and attempted rape and is due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrates Court on Monday.
Another rape case was reported at the Tsandi Police Station. An Angolan national aged 19 was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old Namibian male at Omugulwombashe village in the Tsandi Constituency on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 02h00 when the suspect allegedly entered the victim's bedroom, dragged her from the room and raped her.
The suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Outapi Magistrates Court on Monday.
The third incident occurred in the Hardap Region at Mariental, where a 42-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a security guard.
The suspect reportedly offered to walk the victim home from a club to help her stay safe. Halfway to her home he however pushed the woman to the ground and raped her.
The victim later managed to flee the scene naked.
The suspect, who was off-duty at the time but had been wearing his uniform, was arrested and is due to appear in the Mariental Magistrates Court on Monday.
