GROOTFONTEIN, 15 JUN (NAMPA) - Three men were arrested while cutting open a safe inside the Woermann Brock Supermarket here on Wednesday morning.
They are 38, 38, 39 years old and residents of Grootfontein. All three have previous robbery/theft records.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa at the scene on Wednesday the safe contained more than N.dollars 44 000.
“We apprehended them after a member of the public tipped us off on movements on the roof of the Woermann Brock Supermarket,” she said.
The arrest was made possible through a joint police operation with the Neighbourhood Watch organisation at the town.
They allegedly entered the building through the roof at approximately 03h00, using cutting equipment. They had managed to cut halfway through the safe by the time the police arrived.
The suspects are held at the Grootfontein Police Station holding cells, and are expected to appear in court Friday.
Police investigations continue.
